As opposed to homes in rural areas where there may be miles between residences, many homes in New Jersey are built along roads lined with sidewalks. Such homes typically have driveways leading from homeowners' properties to the roadways. Police have faulted a particular motorist for carelessness in a personal injury collision that resulted in fatality.
The driver of the vehicle in question reportedly entered the road by reversing out of a driveway. At some point during the maneuver, the vehicle struck a woman in the road. The initial impact of the collision was so severe that the 38-year-old woman was knocked to the pavement.
Authorities say the driver of the vehicle then put the car into drive and moved forward — this time, away from the road and back into the driveway. However, the vehicle did not stay there. It rolled back out into the street and struck the woman a second time. This second impact caused the woman became trapped underneath the car.
Sadly, this particular personal injury accident turned fatal when the woman died of her injuries at the scene. Police cited the motorist for careless driving. In similar past situations in New Jersey, family members of deceased accident victims have pursued justice on their loved ones' behalves by filing claims in civil court against those deemed responsible for the collisions that resulted in fatalities. In situations were accident victims survive their injuries, they may act on their own accord to seek compensation for damages; however, most rely on experienced personal injury attorneys to guide them through the process.
