A concussion may be more serious than you think

Posted by Saul Steinberg | Apr 04, 2017 | 0 Comments

Suffering a head injury in a car accident can be frightening, but what if you do not know that you suffered an injury until days or weeks later? Not every head injury comes with visible, physical trauma, especially concussions. You may be experiencing the trauma and effects of this type of traumatic brain injury, yet you may not be aware of the extent of your accident injury right away.

Concussions are not fatal, yet they can be quite serious. The effects of this type of injury depend on the severity of the impact and other factors, but even damage categorized as minor can have a serious, long-lasting impact on your life. You would be wise not to underestimate your injury, but take the steps necessary to ensure that you get the care you need and deserve.

The signs and symptoms of a concussion

A head injury manifests in different ways, and the signs of a concussion can differ on a case-by-case basis. Some of the indicators that your injury merits medical attention include:

  • Seizures
  • Trouble walking or sleeping
  • Weakness or numbness
  • Decreased coordination
  • Repeated vomiting
  • Continuing nausea
  • Confusion
  • Slurred speech

Not only do these signs mean that you should seek the care of a doctor, they could indicate that you may have difficulty doing daily activities. A concussion may make it hard for you to do the following:

  • Drive
  • Take care of your kids
  • Work
  • Remember important information

Symptoms of a concussion do not always start right away. You may notice that it is difficult to go about your daily activities or perform important tasks. This could indicate that the consequences of your car accident may be more serious than you originally presumed.

Why should you seek the help of an attorney?

The aftermath of a car accident can be complicated. From dealing with insurance to delayed signs of physical and traumatic injuries, it can be difficult to secure the help you need for a full recovery. Even a low-speed or rear-end car accident could lead to serious injury, and you will find it beneficial to seek help as you work for the care and support you deserve.

A concussion is serious, and if you suffered this type of injury as the result of the negligent or reckless actions of another person or party, you can fight for money needed for health care, time off work and whatever you need to fully recover and move on with your life.
