Judge rules on several family law issues in actress's divorce

While it remains to be seen how many New Jersey married couples will file for divorce before 2019 ends, it is likely that many who do will encounter challenges in their cases. Family law issues can be quite complex, especially if there are extenuating circumstances, such as allegations of abuse or financial crimes. Actress Julianne Reeves shares a child with her former husband,  a man whom she says has not only been abusive but has used illegal drugs and committed financial crimes, as well.

The child's father is relying on an experienced attorney to do his talking for him in court. The attorney has aggressively protected his client's rights, and has informed the court that he can show evidence that the child's mother is lying. The evidence reportedly suggests that Reeves is not as bad off financially as she has told the court, and also that the allegations against her ex are false.

As for the financial issues, Reeves has filed a petition for increased child support to more than double the current amount of nearly $2,000 per month. However, the judge overseeing the case has postponed her ruling on the issue, stating that since the court has removed the child from Reeves's custody, the  petition is moot unless a planned appeal is successful. Reeves has also asked for approximately $7,000 per month in spousal support, citing the fact that her ex earns a quarter million per year while she cannot rely on or predict her income as an actress.

When former spouses disagree about family law issues, the court may make the decisions for them. A New Jersey attorney with divorce litigation experience can provide guidance and support to any spouse currently facing similar issues to those that have unfolded in the Reeves proceedings. The first logical step to take to secure support is to request a consultation with an attorney.
