Immigration issues place activist at risk for removal

New Jersey readers might be among many others across the country who are currently following the case of a man in another state. The central focus of the immigration law matter involves the man's legal status. Immigration officers recently arrested him even though he has lived, worked and been raising a family in this country for more than 25 years.

Immigration officials say the man was deported a long time ago. They have accused him of re-entering the United States in 2004 without proper documentation. Those closest to the man say they believe his outspoken activism made him a target for Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

The man, who is a father of five, reportedly invited ICE to a venue where he planned to speak on immigration issues. He says the agency declined the invitation but sent officers to arrest him a few weeks later. He is currently under the custody of U.S. Marshals. The judge overseeing the man's case has denied bond, and he faces criminal prosecution regarding the allegations of undocumented re-entry to the United States.

The man's immigration problems began when he was age 19. He was slated for deportation in connection with a burglary. He appealed the ruling but was unsuccessful. The man's wife says she is very worried because the situation has made her a single mother of five children. Any New Jersey resident who is currently facing similar legal problems can seek guidance and support from an attorney who is well-versed on matters of U.S. immigration law.
