Criminal defense ongoing in New Jersey carjacking case

News reports are often filled with acts of violence and wrongdoing. As a result, the New Jersey public has become more vigilant in watching out and protecting themselves. Additionally, local law enforcement officers remain on the lookout for possible concerns and are usually quick to respond when there is a perceived problem. For those charged with such acts of violence or wrongdoing, a strong criminal defense will be needed in answering to such charges.

In Dec. 2013, four men were apparently involved in a carjacking in Milburn. According to one of the victims, the men shot and killed her husband during the act of stealing the car. One of the men has already been convicted of felony murder. Another recently pleaded guilty and will likely receive up to 20 years in prison at his sentencing in November. The other two defendants are still awaiting trial.

A situation such as this one raises a number of questions. One of the primary concerns is which, if any, of the defendants actually killed the man. Additionally, what evidence is there that ties these particular men to the crime?

Each individual charged is likely working alongside an experienced criminal defense attorney. Evidence pointing to the individual's exact involvement in the crime alleged will need to be reviewed. Additionally, due to the media attention that such crimes generally generate, the defense team will want to ensure that the client's rights are fully protected. The fact that this case has already generated two convictions makes the road ahead for the remaining defendants challenging. Nevertheless, each case must be considered on its own merits, and each accused individual is entitled to the full protections guaranteed to anyone accused of a crime in New Jersey.
