ICE arrests lead to need for criminal defense

Fear is a part of everyday life for some in New Jersey. They are fearful that they or a family member will be deported and no longer able to live in the community in which they have raised their children and called home for a number of years. For many of these individuals, the fear of being charged with a crime heightens this deportation fear. If this were to happen, in addition to needing a criminal defense, the individual would need someone familiar with immigration policies as well.

Recently, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested three individuals at a home in New Brunswick. Claiming that this was a criminal matter rather than an immigration one, the three are said to be facing federal charges. However, no details regarding what the actual charges are have been released.

Witnesses state that officers could be seen removing several bags from the home. It appears that the investigation primarily targeted the home's second floor. ICE officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing.

Based upon the fact that ICE officers were involved in the arrest, it appears that one or more of the individuals arrested may face immigration concerns apart from any criminal proceedings. In additional to requiring a criminal defense, the threat of deportation may also be involved. Each individual will want to work with an experienced attorney who will work diligently to review the charges and the evidence that the prosecution proposes to use in court. It will also be necessary to make sure that each individual's rights are protected as this case proceeds before a federal court in New Jersey.
